While my pups Missy & Buzz have had some freeze-dried tripe treats earlier this year (which they loved!), they had yet to get their paws on the real, raw deal.
Well, I am proud to announce that I successfully checked off raw, green tripe from our to-feed-list. I got it from Raw Paws Pet Food and will be incorporating it into our raw feeding routine on a regular basis!
Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post ~ K9sOverCoffee received one 5 lb tube of Green Beef Tripe (ground) from Raw Paws Pet Food in return for an honest review. Here on K9sOverCoffee, I only share information I feel is relevant to my readers & always provide 100% honest reviews. Raw Paws Pet Food is not responsible for the content of this blog post.
What Exactly IS Green Tripe?
Tripe is the nutrient rich lining of the stomach of a ruminant animal (e.g. cow, deer, sheep, goat, etc).
“Green” means that the tripe has not been cleaned, bleached nor scalded (this process would actually destroy all the valuable nutrients tripe comes with!).
Why Feed Green Tripe?
Green tripe is a natural, nutritional powerhouse that dogs go bonkers for, and Missy & Buzz are no exception!!
Tripe is easily digestible because it contains high amounts of digestive enzymes (probiotic lactobacillus acidophilus = good intestinal bacteria), meaning it treats diarrhea as well as constipation.
Its thick & chewy texture along with its gastric juices helps keep those K9 pearlies clean.
Tripe also has the perfect ratio of calcium to phosphorus: 1:1. It’s important to feed our pups the right amount of both of those essential minerals, especially when feeding & putting together a raw diet which is not pre-packaged and hasn’t been bought online (raw bone is another source of calcium & phosphorus). Defective bone formation is one consequence of an imbalance in calcium & phosphorus in a dog’s diet.
Tripe is also rich in amino acids (they are the building blocks of protein; their lack causes eye & heart diseases) and essential fatty acids (important for healthy skin & coat, joint health, the non-development of allergies & inflammation).
Overall, tripe provides a wonderful boost to any dog’s immune system!

How To Prepare The Frozen Green Beef Tripe
The ground green tripe arrived at our front door solid frozen, which meant that it had to thaw first before the pups were able to eat it!
I placed it into a large casserole dish and let it sit in the fridge for about a day and a half. It was still not completely thawed, but I was able to cut it into smaller portions using a sharp knife on a cutting board.
I then measured out 3 oz (85 gr) portions of tripe using my digital kitchen scale and lots of plastic food storage containers. The pups each had 3 oz of tripe mixed in with their raw breakfast and dinner over the next 5 days (60 oz).
They had the remaining 20 oz as little snacks here & there – I gave them a little at first to get them used to the new food (they INSTANTLY loved it and, of course, had no trouble digesting it), and used some for our video review 🙂
How Does It Ship?
As mentioned above, the tripe arrived in a 5 lb solid frozen tube. How is this possible given the fact that it had to travel from Indianapolis, IN to the Ft. Bragg, NC area (about 650 mi = 1000 km)?
Well, it was shipped via FedEx Home inside an insulated “ThermoSafe” Shipper which was filled with dry ice and packing peanuts!
Where To Order It
Now that YOUR pup(s) can’t wait to get some green beef tripe, you can easily order it online. Just head over to Raw Paws Pet Food and choose between a 5 lb tube and a total of 25 lb.
What An Actual Beef Stomach Looks Like!
I found a great video on YouTube showing what an actual beef stomach looks like…have a look, and then appreciate that you can buy it in ground form from Raw Paws Pet Food without having to hook & slice it outside on your patio!!
Are There Any Cons?
I’ll be honest with you – tripe tends to be a bit on the smelly side. It’s kind of an earthy smell, but since I typically don’t have an overly sensitive nose, I didn’t mind it too much. PLUS, any food that comes with all those amazing health benefits can have a little smelly side to it 😉
