This blog post was originally published in 2015 and has been updated in November 2025 with new information about Earth Rated and their dog poop bags / dispenser.
I first came across Earth Rated poop bags back in 2012 and would buy them every now and then for my personal dogs Missy & Buzz.
But then back in 2015, I opened my own dog walking and pet sitting business and began buying a big stack on a monthly basis because of how strong and durable they were (and still are).
Funny enough, 2015 was also the year when I won a box of 120 Easy-Tie Earth Rated poop bags from a dog blog that’s no longer active these days.
The lavender-scented kind, to be specific. And that’s what originally motivated me to write this blog post.
Now, over the years, I’ve tried many different dog poop bags from a variety of brands, but I keep coming back to the Earth Rated ones.
Why is that?
Because they have the best poop bags, period. They’ve never ripped on me even when I used them to pick up dog throw up or even dog diarrhea, and used them to clean out my clients’ cat litter boxes.
Interesting fact: they still cost the same as they did back in 2015 – how about that?! US$0.07 per bag, to be exact.
So here’s an update on what their current poop bags look like, and how their new dog poop bag dispenser works.
Earth Rated Poop Bags – An Honest Review from a Former Dog Walker
Who Is Earth Rated?
The name “Earth Rated” already suggests the company’s dedication to our planet Earth.
That said, Earth Rated is a popular brand that specializes in eco-friendly dog poop bags. Here’s what you need to know about their products:
- Their poop bags are made from 65% certified post-consumer recycled plastic
- The poop bag core rolls & packaging are made of recycled material
- They donate any dog poop bags that don’t pass their quality control to shelters
- Excess production material is recycled or re-used for future production
- Earth Rated is a Canadian company but has multiple warehouse locations worldwide which reduces their carbon footprint
Eco-Friendly Waste Bags
Earth Rated makes their poop bags from 65% certified post-consumer recycled plastic and 35% virgin plastic (HDPE/LLDPE).
So: they’re more eco-friendly than many basic plastic bags (because of the recycled content) but they still are plastic and don’t claim full degradation.
They Make Extra Large, Extra Strong and Leak-Proof Poop Bags
The Earth Rated Easy-Tie poop bags I got in the mail way back were the extra large ones with a wide opening and handles.
They’re thick and resistant to tearing, which means they don’t leak.
Back then and today, they measure(d) 13.5″ by 7″, and I could easily pull them out of their dispensing-box through an opening in the back.
Side note: The wide opening makes these poop bags a great option for cat litter cleaning duty as well!
I’ve used them for that very purpose at many client homes.

Lavender-Scented Dog Poop Bags
As mentioned above, I won the lavender-scented poop bags.
I’m usually not a fan of scented dog products because I find that they can be overpowering scent wise.
These dog poop bags, however, are a nice exception to the rule, because they don’t overwhelm my nose!
However, Earth Rated also has an unscented Easy-Tie poop bag option.
Earth Rated Poop Bags: Convenience of Handles
When we lived in Northern Virginia, about 45 minutes outside of D.C., we had tons of poop bag stations along our walking trails.
As a result, we never had to had carry our dog poop very far.
But in 2015, we moved to rural North Carolina, and poop bag stations were a rarity.
I occasionally saw one at a State Park, a gated community or in our vet’s parking lot, but that’s about it.

My largest clients were Great Danes, and my smallest client pup was a Yorkie Poo, and all of those poops fit wonderfully into the Earth Rated poop bags.
As a matter of fact, I frequently piled up several piles of poop into one and the same bag!
Affordable Dog Waste Bag for $0.07 Per Bag!
To this day, a box of the 120 Easy-Tie Earth Rated, lavender scented poop bags with handles retails for around $7.99.
That’s exactly how much they were back in 2015 as well!
That’s only a cost of $0.07 per bag ~ fair price for a pawsome product and it hasn’t even increased in price over the years. How about that!
By the way, one time, I got super lucky and got a damaged box of Earth Rated poop bags for a fraction of the regular cost at a physical pet retail store!
I know it’s silly because it’s not exactly an expensive product to begin with, but I definitely did a little happy dance in the poop bag aisle.

These days, their reminder is a bit smaller, but still there – it says “3 bags left” and you’ll see it on the third last poop bag you pull from a roll.

We use a wide variety of bags, but we always have a box of Earth Rated handle bags on hand. They are the only bags that don’t break in the bitter winter cold for one thing, and Mom uses them when she is on runs too because they are strong. With three of us, she crams as much poo into a bag as possible and often times gets 5 or 6 piles in one. (on longer walks, we often go twice)

Those look so easy to deal with! I wish more people would use these; in my mom’s neighborhood no one picks up their poo and it makes her SO mad. We use leftover plastic bags from the grocery store to scoop ours up. I just had my mom start saving the ones she gets and grab a stash from her. Our pugs love a good walk!
They really are ~ there’s only one other poop bag brand out there I can seriously say I LOVE (MuttMitts!) I hate when people don’t pick up after their dog’s poop, and I’ve noticed that problem both in urban as well as rural areas. I’m all for recycling any sort of bag that is fit for poop scooping duty!
