About a week ago, I had my very first phone consultation with Dr. Charles E. Loops, DVM/Homeopathic Veterinarian. The next day, Missy & I went to see him at his office of veterinary homeopathy in Pittsboro, NC to pick up her remedies and K9 cancer supplements.
As Missy’s cancer has spread into her lungs and can’t be cured using either Western or Wholistic treatments, I’m hoping to increase both her lifespan as well as her quality of life with this gentle approach of dealing with her disease.
I’d rather not be pumping her body full of chemical drugs (we did 2 weeks of oral chemotherapy treatment which I just put an end to).
Besides a special cell salt combination and 3 liquids (Kali carbonic 200 C, Calcarea iodotum LM/6 / Thuja 30 C Combo, and Carcinogen plus 200C), Dr. Loops also sent us home with a sheet of suggested supplements.

Fish Oil
His preferred brand of fish oil is Thorne Super EPAVET made from anchovies. 90 gelcaps retail for $30.90 on both the brand’s website as well as on Amazon Prime.
Dr. Loops recommends cold water fish oil, salmon oil, and some other fish oils that are molecularly distilled. That’s because they have a higher concentration of EPA and DHA, and because they don’t contain any heavy metals.
Transfer Factor or Transfer Factor Plus or Canine Complete – 4Life
These supplements all boost the immune system – I think I may have to get some for myself! I looked up the Canine Complete formula and found that it contains a patented concentrate of transfer factors and other natural components from cow colostrum and egg yolk, cordyceps sinensis hybrid, maitake mushroom, shiitake mushroom, IP-6 (inositol hexaphosphate), lactic acid bacteria, yeast (Saacharomyces cerevisiae), sunflower oil (source of Omega 6,9 fatty acids), soybean oil (source of Omega 3,6,9 fatty acids), and flaxseed oil.
Side note: Transfer factors are small messenger molecules that transfer immune recognition to naive immune cells.
60 servings per container retail for $46.95 on the 4Life.com website, and for $54.45 on Amazon Prime. I’m assuming that shipping isn’t free on the brand’s website, but I wasn’t able to find out how much it was without creating an account.
Curcumin
Curcumin (= turmeric) is a tumor reduction supplement. Dr. Loops recommends the brand Curcuvet for Missy (SA150). It also helps reduce inflammation of the GI tract and joints and protects the liver and kidneys from damage. 90 capsules retail for $25 on Amazon (Prime).
My approach is to feed homemade turmeric paste, also known as golden paste. I shared the recipe in my blog post The 5 Key Benefits of Organic Turmeric Paste You Don’t Want Your Dog To Miss Out On … And How To DIY.
Life Gold – Canine Cancer Support
Life Gold is an herbal complex formulated for cancer treatment. 2 oz retail for $35.95 both on petwellbeing.com as well as on Amazon, where it’s part of the Prime 2-Day guaranteed shipping program. It helps manage symptoms of K9 cancer by supporting the immune system & vital systems of detoxification, by helping reduce oxidative stress, by supporting antioxidant functions, by promoting long-term health, and by helping to re-establish the essence of a healthy, vibrant life.

Perfusia Arginine
Since Missy’s heart is slightly enlarged, the Perfusia Arginine also made it on Dr. Loops’ list of suggested supplements for her. 120 capsules retail for $36.05. They improve blood flow and maintenance of normal blood pressure.
CBD Oil (Hemp Oil)
Dr. Loops recommends two CBD oil brands – Bluebird Botanicals which retails for $44.95 (2 oz) and Canna Companion which retails for $74.95 (1 oz). I went ahead and ordered a bottle of the Bluebird Botanicals oil. Hemp oil contains the perfect ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids, reduces inflammation, and strengthens the immune system.
Missy just started taking her hemp oil by @bluebirdbotanicals which came recommended by our homeopathic veterinarian Dr. Loops. Let’s see if I’ll be able to notice any changes in her health over the course of the next few weeks. I’ll report my findings on the blog regardless of outcome. ? Optimal Cancer Diet For Dogs – Darwin’s Intelligent Design Cancer Support Diet
I went ahead and placed an order with Darwin’s as their cancer support formula comes highly recommended by Dr. Loops. It’s prescription only, so his office staff contacted Darwin’s and took care of the prescription part. When I called a few hours later, it was in their system and I had no trouble placing an order.
It’s funny how I’m back to feeding Darwin’s as they were the very first commercial raw food brand I purchased for the first few months when I made the switch from kibble to homemade to raw meals.
The only reason why I stopped ordering from them was their price as it did get expensive feeding two medium to large sized dogs. So for now, only Missy eats Darwin’s. Her brother Buzz continues eating mainly homemade raw.

Bottom Line
So far, I’ve incorporated Darwin’s cancer support diet and the turmeric paste supplement. I also plan on getting the Canine Complete 4Life immune system booster and the anchovy fish oil by Super EPAVET.
I’m also going to look into hemp oil based treats. That’s been something I’ve wanted to explore for a while, so now seems like the perfect opportunity!
