Before you roll your eyes at yet another subscription box, bear with me. This one is the real deal. I’m no longer easily impressed with treats since having made the switch from kibble to a raw diet last year, and am the self-proclaimed queen/lover of single-ingredient treats. Want proof? I say so in my Instagram profile.

Update June 2018: Real Pet Food is now called Real Dog Box.

Disclaimer: Real Pet Food provided us with 1 free subscription box in return for an honest review, but K9sOverCoffee only shares information I feel is relevant to my readers &Β always provides 100% honest reviews. Real Pet Food also donated 2 boxes to Boxer Butts and Other Mutts, a NC based Boxer Rescue I support whenever I can. Real Pet Food is not responsible for the content of this blog post.
I was, however, honestly blown away by the Real Pet Food subscription box I received in the mail – everything from the packaging & labeling to content & explanation thereof was appealing.

What’s In The Box?
As the brand name suggests, this product is a food-based subscription box and doesn’t contain any toys or accessories. Every single box contains all the components from the raw feeding diet, which follows the Muscle Meat + Organ Meat + Bone formula.
You’ll get your paws on single-ingredient, unprocessed, air-dried, preservative/antibiotic/hormone/additive-free, USDA inspected & human grade treats/chews!
I think it’s a very clever and educational approach to include cards in each box that tell you exactly what you received, the guaranteed analysis, background information about where it was sourced, as well as feeding suggestions.
Seafood: 2 oz of Wild-Caught Smelt
Sourced from Canada, made in California.

Organ Meat: 2 oz of Beef Spleen
Sourced & made in California.

Muscle Meat: 3 oz of Elk Meat
Fresh From New Zealand & made in California.

Chew # 1: Lamb Weasand
Sourced & made in California.

Chew # 2: Turkey Neck
Sourced & made in California.

Chew # 3: Pig Ear
Sourced & made in California.

Great Training Reward

I put Missy in a down-stay while snapping a picture of her and the beef spleen, and then rewarded her with several pieces of it for holding her position. I could easily brake them apart into smaller pieces, meaning a smaller pup could also easily be treated with bite size pieces appropriate for his or her size/weight/caloric restrictions.
Re-Energizing Snack During Playtime

Above picture shows Buzz eagerly anticipating a wild-caught smelt. Notice his beloved chuck-it ball by his side? He dropped it no questions asked when I presented him with the fish – that’s saying a lot because Mr. Buzz is a ball fanatic π
Convenient Food Topper

The air-dried smelt on top of the pups’ raw meal almost makes it look like a piece of art, doesn’t it?! Healthy edible art, that is.
Besides topping any diet off with the real treats, they can also be rehydrated to make a softer meal for older pups and/or those with dental issues.
I remember Buzz had to be on a soft food diet for 10 days after having broken a tooth which required dental surgery (shortly before I began our raw feeding journey).
Air-Dried & Pathogen Tested
Real Pet Food air dries their chews & treats as opposed to baking or treating them with high heat in order to lock in all the nutrients. They are sliced and/or placed on stainless steel grates in a well air-circulated room for 30-120 hours – pawlΓ , that’s it! Easy yet highly effective.
All chews & treats are tested for pathogens (includes salmonella & e.coli) after the drying process, mainly for our human safety. A dog’s stomach is much more acidic than ours, and their saliva contains digestive enzymes which are designed to neutralize bacteria – translating into the fact that they are much better equipped to handle potential bacteria (I wrote about this in my Raw Feeding Myth Buster Series.)Β
Ordering Your Box Is Easy And Shipping Is Free!

Ordering a box is super easy – just head over to RealPetFood.com, click on Get Started, and fill out the form!Β 1 box runs at $35, which may seem a little high at first. However, when you think about the contents of the box & the quality of both chews & treats, as well as the free shipping, the price is more than fair.
I also like the fact that Real Pet Food doesn’t make it hard to cancel a box (can be done under account details in your customer account) – after all, life happens and the vast majority of us pet owners aren’t millionaires. I’ve had to discontinue a subscription service before π
100% Satisfaction Guarantee – Set Preferences Or Allergy Restrictions
Real Pet Food guarantees your satisfaction 100%: Not only are you able to set allergy restrictions & preferences – should your pup not be enthused by a specific treat, they will replace it and ensure that it won’t get sent your way again. Paw high 5 for that customer service!
10% Of Sales Funds Research
Despite how far we have come in learning about anatomy and nutrition, we are still learning what the best foods are for us and our dogs!Β That is why 10% of sales go directly into funding research to find the most nutritious, unprocessed foods for our dogs. (Quote Real Pet Foods)
In A Nutshell – Subscription Box Not Just For Raw Feeders!
While this subscription box certainly is any raw feeder’s dream box, kibble-fed pups will enjoy it just as much as their raw-fed furry friends.
It adds a nutritional boost to any diet, can be fed as a snack, training reward, or food topper, and takes personal preferences/allergies into account! Highly recommended π

Do you think outside the box when treating your furry friends? As always, we’d love to hear from you in our comment section!
